FC 24: Player ratings of FC 24: Haaland, Mbappé, Putellas top the list

EA Sports has kicked off the week with the release of the 24 top-rated men's and women's players in the latest edition of their flagship football game, and the very first edition to bear the new name: FC 24.
Following the end of its longstanding partnership with FIFA last year, EA Sports has ushered in this new FC era with a revamped rating system that not only assigns players a skill rank out of 100, but also gives them special talents and playing styles optimized by Opta Stats.
As in the final game of the FIFA epoch, the highest player rating in the base game of FC 24 is 91, shared by four players - one of whom is a Ballon d'Or victor.
After dominating the EA Sports franchise ratings for many years, both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have seen their ratings drop further. Messi has fallen out of the top five, and Ronaldo has slipped out of the top 24 altogether. A wave of fresh and emerging talent is beginning to usurp the once-established order.
We've sifted through the first batch of FC 24 player ratings to highlight some of the biggest and most notable storylines.

1. New superstars rule the roost
In what appears to be a symbolic passing of the torch as EA Sports prepares to move into the FIFA era, former heavyweights like Messi and Ronaldo have found themselves sliding down the rankings -- some more dramatically than others.
Son Heung-min, Sadio Mane, Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Casemiro, N'Golo Kante, Ederson, Jan Oblak, Toni Kroos and Marquinhos - all ranked in the top 24 a year ago - are all nowhere to be found in the top 24.
Instead, the likes of Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, Rodri, Vinícius Júnior and Rúben Dias have risen through the ranks in the men's game. At the same time, there are a number of new faces in the women's game who have reached rare levels, with Barcelona and Spain star Alexia Putellas leading the way.
She is joined in the top 10 by club and country teammate Aitana Bonmati, the reigning FIFA Women's World Cup Golden Ball and UEFA Women's Player of the Year, and Chelsea and Australia's Sam Kerr.
2. Mbappé the new golden boy
After languishing in third place in the FIFA 23 Player Ranking, Mbappé has risen to the top of the FC 24, even though the mercurial Paris Saint-Germain forward's actual rating between games remains at 91.
3. Messi slips out of the top five
After barely holding on to his top-five status in FIFA 23, Messi has slipped to sixth place this time around. This comes after an impressive 13 consecutive years in the top two.
Despite his heroics at Qatar 2022 and a blistering start to life with Inter Miami CF, Messi has seen his overall rating drop from 91 to 90.
The only other entrant in the top 24 currently plying their trade in North America is USWNT stalwart Alex Morgan, who ranks 20th with an overall rating of 89.
4. Triple winners at the top
No clubs have more players in the top 24 rated players in FC 24 than Manchester City and Barcelona Femeni, though perhaps that shouldn't come as too much of a surprise given that both are reigning treble winners.
City have Haaland, Dias, Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne in the top 10 and four overall. Meanwhile, winger Caroline Graham Hansen and defender Mapi León are also in the top 10, while Barca's women's team have both Putellas and Bonmati in the top 10.
The only other club with more than two are Liverpool's men, but all three are outside the top 10, with Mohamed Salah (13th, 89) leading the way ahead of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker.
5. Courtois retains his place as the best goalkeeper
Thibaut Courtois is once again the best goalkeeper in the game, as the Real Madrid stopper carries his high rating of 90 over from FIFA 23 into FC 24. The 31-year-old Belgium international is likely to miss a significant chunk of the 2023-24 season after suffering a torn ACL in August. However, this has not diminished his lofty position in the virtual world.
In fact, only three goalkeepers have made it into the top 24 of the overall player ratings, with Courtois (9th) being the only one to squeeze into the top 10. Further down the list, Marc-André ter Stegen (21st, 89) and Alisson (23rd, 89) are the only other representatives of the goalkeeping guild.
6. Biggest rise, biggest fall
The most meteoric rise in the ratings is that of Haaland. In FIFA 23, he was ranked 21st with a rating of 88. By the simple act of scoring 52 goals in 53 appearances and winning the treble in his debut season with Man City, the Norwegian powerhouse has climbed to third in the FIFA 24 rankings with an overall rating of 91.
After topping the ratings in FIFA 23, Karim Benzema has plummeted to 8th place in the FC 24 pile after ending his glorious tenure at Real Madrid in favor of a move to the Saudi Pro League with Al Ittihad. This despite his overall rating only dropping from 91 to 90 in the space of a year.
Robert Lewandowski was the second highest rated player in FIFA 23. However, a similar one-point drop from 91 to 90 dropped the Barca poacher from the silver medal podium to 11th place.
